Ordered a Jumbo Burger and 1 scoop of chips and didn’t even need to dig into the chips. The Jumbo burger was awesome and a must have! Would highly recommend food value for quality.
My favourite! No fancy advertising or signs, a classic kiwi fish and chip shop. Delicious food, value for money and consistent! $5.00 deal as pictured!! Always busy - hence good food. Be patient! Worth the wait.

Alma Road Takeaway hit the spot in every way tonight as we were driving from Wellington to Taranaki for my father‘s funeral. After an hour crawling through traffic to get out of Wellington, We got to live in and about an hour later, at 6:30pm. We called ahead to the Alma in Whanganui based on its Google Star rating, asking them to put aside three lots of fish and chips for collection in an hour. They ticked every box. They were just wrapping the three parcels when I walked in the door a couple of minutes before 7:30 pm. The chips were perfectly cooked and the two pieces of fish we each had were huge, perfectly cooked in a thin crisp batter. It was a fantastic feed. Now we were heading on the last leg about trip feeling full of fine food and very thankful to the great people at the Alma Road Takeaway.
Excellent fresh fish and good chips, dont know what previous whingers are on about. Also observed this guy assembling the burgers ( about $7.50 for a generous burger,) and never at any time did he handle the ingredients with his bare hands. Other burger joints maybe should take note!
Really excellent food and prices. The staff are really friendly and you can tell they make their food with care. We just moved into a new place down the road and were wondering why this takeaway is always so busy, now we know! So far, best fish and chips we have had in Wanganui
